Proper Tooth Brushing for Oral and Dental Health

Proper and effective tooth brushing is the cornerstone of oral and dental health. Maintaining oral care is essential for an individual to use their teeth in a healthy manner throughout their lifetime. Proper and effective tooth brushing can be achieved by paying attention to the following steps:

    Choosing the Right Toothbrush:

    To prevent damage to the gums during brushing, avoid using hard toothbrushes. An ideal toothbrush is soft or medium in hardness.

    Brush Replacement:

    A toothbrush should be used for a maximum of three months. Worn-out, bent bristles, and toothbrushes used for three months cannot provide the necessary cleanliness. These brushes should be replaced.

    Ideal Toothpaste:

    Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel and prevents cavities. Therefore, toothpaste containing fluoride should be preferred. If our dentists recommend toothpaste with other ingredients, following their advice will be effective in preserving your oral and dental health.

    Brushing Time:

    Brush your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes each time. All tooth surfaces and the tongue should be cleaned during this brushing time. A timer can be used to set the brushing time.

    Correct Brushing Technique:

    Incorrect use of the brush during brushing can harm the gums or result in inadequate cleaning. The toothbrush should be placed at a 45-degree angle to the gums, and a sweeping motion from the gum to the tooth should be applied with gentle pressure. Tooth surfaces should be brushed with circular motions. Care should be taken to clean the plaque accumulation between the gum and the tooth. Accumulated plaques can turn into tartar over time, which can only be cleaned by our dentists through tartar removal.

    Tongue Cleaning:

    After completing the tooth brushing process, the tongue should be cleaned with tongue cleaning tools or a brush. Bacteria accumulated on the tongue can cause bad breath.

    Dental Floss Usage:

    Food particles between teeth cannot be removed with a toothbrush. Dental floss should be used to clean between the teeth once a day. Interdental brushes also provide effective results in dental hygiene. This way, plaque accumulation between the teeth is not observed, and consequently, tartar formation does not occur.

    Mouthwash:

    Mouthwash solutions that support oral and dental health should be used. These solutions are effective in killing bacteria and provide fresh breath through their odors.

    Regular Dental Check-ups:

    To maintain oral and dental health, dental visits every 6 months are important. Your dentist performs the necessary procedures for your oral and dental health. With early diagnosis and treatment, procedures such as fillings, veneers can be performed before tooth loss occurs. In cases of tooth loss, implant treatment can be performed immediately to prevent loss of jawbone tissue.
